Robin Joe Kong
Northern Business Consultants
Joe's passion for small business runs deep - he grew up in a family that owned its own business, which sparked his lifelong commitment to supporting this vital sector. With a career that has come full circle, Joe started working for a prominent business owner involved with hotels, building, and primary production businesses before moving into an accounting role at a major Australian credit union. He then became a registered financial planner before discovering his true calling: working directly with small business owners in public practice accounting. Joe realised that so much of a business owner's wealth is tied up in their business, and through better-informed advice on ownership structures, tax, and financial indicators, he could help grow that wealth just like personal investments.
What Joe loves most about his role at Northern Business Consultants is being a trusted adviser and sounding board for business owners as they navigate compliance, strategic decisions, and growth challenges. His ability to listen, understand, and identify whether a solution is worth the investment has served his clients well for decades. Joe also excels at connecting people with the right service providers when expertise falls outside his field - he knows that sometimes the best value you can provide is making the right introduction.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys socialising and travelling with his wife, spending time with his children and friends, and weekend cycling with his regular group. He was honoured with a Lilley Australia Day award in 2014 for his contribution to the community. Joe's guiding principle is simple: treat others as you would want to be treated. All advice he gives is measured against what he would tell his own family. His methodical, focused approach to problem-solving and his genuine care for local business make him a valued member of our Chamber community.
